Pick the right size
The crate should be just big enough to stand, turn around, and lie down — no bigger, or your puppy will potty in one corner and sleep in another.
Make it a good place
- Toss treats inside and let your puppy explore with the door open.
- Feed meals in the crate.
- Never use it as punishment.
Go at your puppy's pace and build up crate time gradually, and you'll have a dog who happily trots in for a nap.
